The Vision Education Series

Presented by John P. Jacobi, OD, FCOVD, FIALVS


This series is specifically designed to offer hope for those who have experienced vision loss by providing solutions. While it is still necessary that a patient understand the condition that has led to his/her visual compromise, it is more important that they understand help is possible. Dr. Jacobi will present solutions that are designed to help patients understand and meet their visual goals whenever possible.


About the Speaker

Dr. John Jacobi is an optometrist who has been helping patients with low vision for thirty-six years. During that time, he has helped thousands of patients regain their joy and independence in life. He has often restored them to being able to drive, watch TV and read. Dr. Jacobi is a popular speaker providing education to the public regarding a variety of visual concerns including low vision.

Driving with Compromised Sight

As we age our night sight begins to decline. Typically, the decline in vision is first noticed when driving at night becomes challenging. This is followed by difficulty seeing to drive during the day. Various eye diseases make driving even more challenging. Dr. Jacobi will explore the options that are available to help people drive safely even when sight is diminished.


Reading at Every Age: Despite Visual Challenges

Not being able to read can depress even the happiest of people, profoundly! Dr. Jacobi will present the latest technology for multiple reading assisted solutions.


Macular Degeneration and Solutions

Losing one’s central vision can be devasting. While nothing can be done to regain your central vision, Dr. Jacobi will demonstrate how it is possible to restore visual function by teaching you how to use the vision that you do have.


Low Vision: There is Hope

Hearing that one has Low Vision can feel devasting. This is why it is crucial that a patient’s treatments match the stage of the disease that they are in. The categories of low vision are low, moderate and severe. Both too much assistance and too little will frustrate a patient. Starting with reading glasses off the shelf can be frustrating and destroy morale.

Dizziness and Vision

Many people live with dizziness and vertigo unnecessarily. There are a variety of correctable vision problems that are often difficult to detect that can impact balance, movement, dizziness and vertigo. Dr. Jacobi will take the audience through an explanation of how specialized glasses can remedy their discomfort.


Vision After Stroke

A stroke will almost always leave a patient visually disoriented. People can lose side vision, lose the ability to read, and even experience double vision. Dr. Jacobi will share various ways to correct the underlying vision problems.


Nutrition and Visual Health

Good nutrition is often one of the best ways to improve and maintain our vision, yet it is the most misunderstood. This is a fun lecture that really reveals the preventative and restorative abilities of good nutrition and supplements.


Diabetes and Vision

Uncontrolled diabetes can destroy vision. Learn how to monitor your condition so you can maintain your gift of sight. However, for those who have already lost some vision due to diabetes, Dr. Jacobi will discuss how you can still function as a sighted person.


Dry Eyes

Unbeknownst to most, the first sign of dry eye disease is a decrease in sight. The scratchy, burning and reddening of the eyes come later in the progression. This is a chronic condition which requires treatment and maintenance. Dr. Jacobi will present vital information to help you preserve your vision.


Tints and Vision

Tinted lenses can make a big impact on one’s quality of life when used correctly. In fact, some tints can slow down or even prevent the progression of some eye diseases. Dr. Jacobi will share the different available tints that match the patients’ needs.
