Dear Dr.,
There are some exciting treatment options available to help patients who have had vision loss due to ARMD, diabetic retinopathy and even Stargardt’s. Many patients with low vision can retain some independence by learning to drive with proper devices. Michigan requires corrected visual acuity of 20/50 or better.
20/50 can be achieved with the use of bioptic driving telescopes which can be worn like spectacles. Even patients with compromised peripheral field can reclaim their driving privileges with the proper visual field enhancing device. This includes patients with TBI/ABI.
In addition to driving, we offer spectacle devices for reading and distance viewing. We also provide handheld magnifiers, sun filters and vision rehabilitation training. Patients are typically very relieved to get their lives back and often say, “I wish I’d known about this sooner.”
Low Vision Services are key to complementing and completing your treatment plan. We have access to all the low vision care devices that your patients will need.
