A Message from Dr. John P. Jacobi, OD, FCOVD, FIALVS

From the first time I heard a patient with macular degeneration share with me that every other practitioner told him that, “There is nothing else I can do for you,” I strove to prove that statement a myth.  As I entered into helping patients with low vision, I have been able to debunk those statements.

There is life Beyond Low Vision!

I have been providing family vision care for 36 years.  During that time, I have provided low vision services to thousands of patients.  I have been able to help countless patients restore driving privileges, regain their reading abilities, pursue their hobbies, and even enjoy the ability to work again!  With the hope of the patient, there is very little, as a team we can’t accomplish!

My training began with a solid foundation at the Michigan Optometric College of Optometry.  I then joined a multi-doctor practice in the city of Livonia.  I became the owner and each of my four doctors pursued specialty services to provide to our patients.  In addition, I lead a non-profit vision clinic in the inner city of Detroit.

I have recently sold my office in Livonia and have decided to only offer low vision services in Novi.  There are very few doctors providing low vision services.  However, I truly enjoy helping patients with the challenges that come with low vision.  To stay up to date with the latest technology in low vision, I joined a very special society known as the International Fellowship of Low Vision Specialists (FIALVS).  Having done so, I have gained access to the most brilliant minds in low vision and the best devices to help patients enjoy an improved quality of life.

My philosophy is to prescribe practical solutions to visually compromised patients.  You already know how to use hand magnifiers (like Sherlock Holmes).  I prescribe “hands free” options to assist you with your lifestyle challenges.  As a result, my patients feel more independent and hopeful when they leave my office.

A little more personal about me:  
I have a wonderful wife and four very accomplished children.  My hobbies include weightlifting, scuba diving, reading classic literature, playing tennis, traveling, skiing and boating.  I also have a 12-pound dog that likes me.
